A young Mary Shelley stumbles upon an occult mad scientist trying to reanimate Frank, a sewn-together corpse, using a captive grimoire, Necro. She intervenes and the book's magic splits her into two versions--a human who writes Frankenstein, and Shel, a supernatural teen, who rescues monsters from from the evil humans who exploit them. Two hundred years later, Shel, Necro, and Frank have founded a safe haven for misfit monsters and lead missions to rescue exploited monsters, like La Llorona.
